Got the 94 running right today. Cleaned the cold start time switch and topped off the radiator and after 10 min she idled down way too low. After refering to haynes manual I turned the idle up a little and she's running fine... but one step backwards at the same time... even after warm up the exhaust is still spraying a white mist so I'm thinking that the head gasket might be bad. I know just about every oil seal is shot so instead of just doing the swap it looks like I'm going to need to at least do a basic rebuild. Removing some dead weight. Tear down for removal Simplified Engine harness. continuation of ecu harness engine pulled Paul G.

White mist, as in steam? You have to be careful not to mis-diagnose. The gas around here has 10% ethanol, plus the humid climate, not to mention a catalytic converter converts the pollutants to -water-. You'll have to actually drive it and run the piss out of it and then bring it back and let it idle to tell more, although, it wouldn't hurt to just put a new head gasket, timing belt/chain, etc in 'er before you swap engines. At least that way, you don't have to worry about it so much afterwards. I thought I had blown gaskets on both my Ford and my Nissan... as they did the same thing, even when it was warm weather. Turns out I was wrong. Usually, if the head gasket is really going, it'll blow heavy white steam / smoke.

As Dave has said. One step forward 2 steps back. Removed the fuel tank yesterday and when I went to remove the High Pressure line from the tank it snapped off. Isn't really a bad thing. Since it was so rusted thru it wasn't safe for the road. Guess I'm going to be removing the bed on ol'red to make room for a racing cell. As far as the engine goes once I get the engine out and onto the engine stand I'll do further diagnosis. Once I pull the head and take a look at the cylinder walls I decide what needs to be done next. At the least it's getting a new head gasket/bolts, rear main, front main, oil pan gasket, timing chain, timing sprockets, timing chain guides, and a new oil pump. If the cylinder walls look good I'll probably just change the cam (level 2 TRD cam). And it wouldn't hurt to put a centerforce clutch on her and I've also been looking at a flywheel that is 10 pounds heavier then factory. More to come soon.
Also there hasn't been any gas added to it in over 6 months when it ran last so it was pre-ethenol gas. Not to mention I didn't waste any antifreeze in her. When I got it the water pump had been pulled so the block was dry. I just thru a water pump n it and filled it with water to check every thing. Knowing that I was going to pull the engine I couldn't see wasting anti freeze or making a extra trip to the store for proper disposal.

Could possibly (worst case) be a crack or leaking / blown head gasket. You'll want a set of those wonderful 2M (mirco-min tech) magnifying spectacles to inspect everything carefully. If you find no cracks in the cylinder jackets or in the head, then just might be the head gasket had a little blow-by. You could also have had water build-up in the tank, unless it had a FULL tank of gas. Waiting with bated breath to see the prognosis and watch the progress. If you need help and I have time to spare, I'm willing to do what I can.

For those of you that want to try this and have no experience with electronics or wiring harnesses look at the latests picture. And my 2 cents on this is if you don't have the electronics/wiring experience DON'T TRY THIS BY YOURSELF. It's very time consuming but it's coming along. I know I'm going to halfto get creative when I wire the dash lights up. It should be fun.

Just make sure you get everything working when you transfer over any wiring, etc. and then loom it all up to make it pretty.... and so hopefully none of the wiring chafes and shorts out to ground. Looks like the fun part is coming along fairly well, considering ;D

Got the engine/tranny out today. Just need to pull the fuel lines and a few more little pieces out of the engine compartment and I can start cutting her down to go to the scrap yard. I'll start pulling the engine down next weekend to see if it needs a rebuild.
