well i just got an 1987 V6 3.0 Pathfinder, with 35s and a 7 or 8inch coil lift. I am going to post some pictures soon, but was wondering if anyone had or has a pathfinder and has done some cool fab to it or something. the motor runs good and the body is fine, a few little penny size rust spots but no frame rust, but 1 gear pops out so i start off in 2nd lol. basically this a low budget summer project truck. any ideas or cool websites with pathfinders on it would be appreciated. -matt the rest of the pictures are at this page, untill load some good ones on here: s193.photobucket.com/albums/z249/Lovemyyj/?mediafilter=images

Er, uh, '87 or '88? Post says 88, sig says 87. Anyhow, did you remove the plastic (?) front skid plate / undercarriage cover(s) to get to the oil filter? Even the 2.4L 4-cyl oil filter is difficult to get to because of what all you have to reach through with all that stuff off just to get to it after you've loosened the filter with a wrench. I particularly like the older pathfinders ('87-'96) myself, looking forward to seeing the pictures of the truck, especially the lift...

its an 87 woops lol same thing i think lol, i just took the plastic off the inside. the oil filter lol the darn thing, i used a rubber band type filter wrench to wedge in between things lol no luck, but its not like skid plates in the way its the frame/starter/headers. and some electrical lines and i think fuel lines.
pics coming soon.

Does it have aftermarket headers? I don't recall the 3.0 V6 being that much of a pain in the butt to get the oil filter off. What you may want to do is see if/when you get it off about installing a filter relocation kit to make future maintenance easier. Just a thought.

The filter is literally less than a inch away from the frame, so close that I cannot even stick my thumb between the two.. Its impossible to get to from above or below. Has be stumped. Had to buy the rubber band type wrench, because it is the only kind flexible enough to even reach the oil filter.......It is definatly a project truck. It also feels extremely loose and has a case of death wobble...Like a said its going to be A LOT of work. But what project isnt right?

Question: Is the oil filter in a canister assembly with 4 bolts, or is it a spin-on/off type? I'll have to dig through my 'storage' and find my manuals, but I saw one type of setup with 4 bolts and a canister. Again, if it's feasible, I would to a filter relocation (and oil cooler?) to make things easier in the future. Also makes me wonder if that is the original 3.0 V6....

It is a spin-off type. The oil filter relocation would be a great idea, but i think this project is going to be very bare bones/cheap. I think matts priority is to just get it road worthy as cheaply as possible.
