Figured I'd throw on a quick update as to what I've been up to. I've been in the lab trying to finish my masters project, and my poor Bronco has been languishing in the garage for months now. I needed a running hauler for steel runs for my lab work, so I decided to go ahead and throw together the 250 I bought from my roommate earlier this year.
We were just in the middle of a auto-to-manual swap, carb swap (Holley to Carter) and some minor engine work (rear main and some gaskets) when he realized just how much work was going to be involved in fixing the rust in the rocker panels. He wanted a nice truck. I just wanted an ugly truck to haul heavy junk, and didn't care if my new rockers were 2x4 steel tube. So a deal was born. ;D
There was a lot of other work done too, but those cover the highlights.
Before the purchase, while we were in the middle of the drivetrain/powertrain work:
The pretty doors he sold during the week he thought he was going to part it out (before I decided to buy it - DOH!). Pay no attention to the Bronco top being stored on the bed:
Where's the beef? 6,000lb rear axle:
Then I got ahold of it and started working my magic (making an ugly vehicle uglier, that is).
New rockers and flanges for the weatherstripping. I haven't gotten around to painting the rest, I just painted what I knew was going to be hidden where I couldn't get to it.
Check out the beefy new hitch receiver:
Time to throw the bed back on:
There we go. Now it looks right. Fie on your nice, chromed out trucks, I'll stick with one I'm not afraid to abuse (and that everyone else is afraid to cut off in traffic).
(Now I just need a decent pic now that it's together.)
