...at the parts store I was at the counter looking up parts with the dude there. At the next console, there was this guy yammering on to another employee about how an oil change destroyed his car.
He kept describing how his car would no longer start. The parts guy was asking him to describe it and see if the guy had bumped any sensor or wires while doing the oil change. By this time, myself and the other parts guy are pretty interested since this guy is getting quite animated and agitated that his car won't run, so we started to try and help them two.
We found out that it cranks over, but won't start. The parts monkey dealing with him is trying to see if it has a crank or cam sensor that could cause the no-start condition. So I start to talk to the guy and got right to the point.
Me - "So what oil did you put in it?"
Him - "I didn't put real oil in it, I used really thick stuff!"
Me - "Like 20w50?"
Him - "No, no, mucho thicker!"
Me - "Like friggin gear oil?"
Him - "Yeah! No, well...just much thickerer!"
Me - "What the hell else is there?"
Him - "Well, the motor was burning up lots and lots of oil and leaking everywhere. I use mucho treatment, molases type oil!"
ME! - "Like Lucas oil treament or something?"
Him - "Like yeah, I used 4 quarts of it since it is thick so it no leak anymore. It was mucho thick stuff, took like 10 minutes to drain each bottle!"
Me- "You did what?!"
I then proceeded to explain to him the no-no on that and how since it was cold, it just made it worse. The guys starter couldn't spin the motor fast enough with that thick stuff....plus with it being so cold it practically gelled up in the motor! He was sad that he had to do another oil change......one that would take a few hours cuz it would come out the drain plug like caramel!!!!
