Well here it goes. Since the Smith boys are internetally challenged, I was asked to help out with Wade's build up thread. Since the Smith boys are somewhat photographically challenged, very few pictures exist of the actual build up. Here is the one I thought best summed up the work Kenny and Wade have been up to for these past few months:
Initial suspension setup
The rest of the photos are of the shakedown trip to test out the suspension:
A poser shot trying to climb a rocky hill...everything looks fine...
The real deal...Wade looks a tad concerned as flexy Jeep suspension gets to leaning...
The rocky incline that will be conquered NEXT time...
Then he headed over to the dirt hills for some flexing to check coil springs, shocks, brake lines, and limit straps...
Cousin Noah and cousin Travis along for some fun...
Noah gets his first ride in the awesome CJ5...
Seth gets a ride too...
Wade, after a successful day of testing, heads home...
I'll get Wade to post up some more info, but here is what I know:
CJ5
fiberglass body
4.0 liter MPI
NP435 transmission
Dana 300 transfer case
Wagoneer Dana 44 front axle 3.73 gears
Scout Dana 44 rear axle 3.73 gears
Warn 9000i winch
33 x 12.50 x 15 MTs
15 x 10 aluminum wheels
4 point harnesses
York on board air
I'm sure Wade would like to thank his Dad, Kenny, since Kenny's old CJ5 was the major donor vehicle, and since Kenny helped Wade in the garage the most.
Secondly, Wade would like to thank Paul Cleary for all his help and ideas with the suspension and axle work.
Finally, Wade would like to thank the best uncle in the world, the person who gently prodded him to keep working on the project (even when the waves of Hampton kept calling, his buddies kept calling, and the TV kept calling), the person who kept sending him jokes to keep his spirits up when things looked bleak, the person who taught him everything he knows about wheeling and spotting, and the person who laughed the least when he drove his RC Jeep into the picnic table on Christmas Day years ago, ME.
Who loves you, baby!
