www.harrisonburgva.gov/index.php?id=1370Am I reading this correctly? Harrisonburg wants to close trails starting with Dry River Run? *Sigh* Get the trail rides in while we can. At least there's still O.R. and Crozet.....for now.

Yes, you are correct. All those areas from the Salt Shed to the Dry River Dam access road…they want to block them off. They have been talking about this for awhile. This plan just became available.
There used to only be one road back in there, but people can't leave a place alone and be content with riding an easy trail. We used to joke that if you were having fun up in the GWNF, you were doing something illegal. I'm sure Shoe Creek is next with all those user created trails. Folks - stay on the main trails, and go for the scenery.

I imagine the same fate will befall Dictum Ridge then, because a new trail has been blazed at the bottom within the last 2 years. Hopefully it was approved as a new bypass or something because there was a spot that was somewhat difficult. I doubt it though. Really sad, feels like a losing battle because it seems most people aren't on board with stopping stuff when they see it's wrong. I've been flamed a lot lately (not here) when I just point stuff out that needs attention or correction. Lots of times people don't know, and I'm sure I've done the same.
But specifically with the salt shed area to the river, I think it's the hunters blazing those new trails. They were everywhere and just drove and parked where they felt like it.
