Swapping in a 4.0 for the old 2.5. Have engine, trans, harness. Need computer. Is there a specific computer ie. calibrations, or can I run any old 1995 4.0 ECU. Ken

You'll need an ECU for the 2.5 as the 4.0 ECU will want to see a 6-cyl pulse.

what year motor/trans are you putting in? the sensors on the engine might not work with the 95 ECU if they are from a newer OBD II engine.

Bah. I think I did misread that. I'd have to agree with Jack on this. You want to make sure that all the pieces and parts are compatible first. If it's a manual transmission, you need an ECU for the manual transmission. If it's an auto, need the ECU that matches the transmission. And you want to make sure the sensors are compatible. Dave G

Ok here are the specs, engine is out of an 99 XJ complete with AW4. My thoughts were to swap out the 99 AW4 and install a 90 AW4 ( keeping the 99 CPS), Then use the 90 TCU and harness to run the trans. The engine, I was going to reuse the 2.5 harness( just add 2 injectors) and steal all the sensors off the 2.5 engine and swap them out, (except for the distributor of course). The 2.5 had the auto trans so I have the NSS switch plug just have to configure the wiring to match up. My other option was to use a 90 XJ 4.0, but this is the wife's jeep, and I thought the new engine would be better.

I see an incureable Check Engine Light in your future.
You may get this all to run, but to get it all to run, work your stock gauges, and not throw a CEL is art! I did a 3 speed auto to AW4 Auto tranny swap in my 97 TJ and have a permanent CEL. Need to replace the ECM/PCM with a Manual tranny version, but don't want to drop $300 to do it.
