In the process of installing the 4.0 into an 95YJ w/ 2.5. 4.0 is in the engine bay, but I can't reuse the engine brackets from the 2.5 I ground off the frame. Too short. I am using a 4.0 from an 99 XJ. Any ideas, searched the internet but a big No-go!! I have the wiring and tranny figured out, never thought I would be stumped by this! Going to hit a couple yards to look at a couple YJ's..

I'd say you may need the 4.0 brackets from the same year XJ, or, depending on 'how things look', you may be able to weld in some perches so the 2.5 mounts fit. Sounds as though the distance between frame rails on the XJ and YJ are different. I'd have to physically see in person or in pictures to give a better guess. Maybe someone can help you out and fab something up for ya.

I am thinking there were many YJ's with the 4.0. You should be able to order the mounts from Hardware or get VERY lucky in a junk yard.

Is that the portion that bolts to teh engine block, or are you talking about the part that is welded to teh frame. I have seen a couple on-line, but not sure if they are what I need. I think the ones I saw were the type that bolted to the existing welded brackets.

I'm willing to guess that the frame mounts and the engine brackets will both be required. You'll probably want to find the frame brackets if you already have the engine brackets.

trying to get in touch with Dave at Starr, to get the brackets. Wife is getting upset, so need to really move on this. Either that or fab up some spacers and reuse the 2.5 brackets. One ? though, with the engine in, how high should it set. I was thinking that as long as the V. cover was just under the MAF sensor I should be ok, or at least a 1/2" gap between the floor pan and the tranny bell housing.

You'll want it sitting in the frame rails where everything fits with a little room - i.e. so your intake air hose to air box fit, etc. - the transmission to floor pan gap is about right... 1/2 to 1" should be plenty. I would personally think ahead to if you have to pull the transmission to replace clutch, etc., as applicable. You don't want to put something together that is a nightmare to do any work on as things break, etc. We see enough of that from the manufacturers ;D Dave G

Left and right frame bracket part #: #52040335 and #52040333
I don't know if there's any kind of locating pin or hole on the frame to make it easy to figure out placement or if you'll have to mock them up on your own.
