Ok guys i am looking at scraping together parts to do a tranny swap in the new yj. I like the auto and have no issues running one but, i hate the fact that this thing has no overdrive. I can pick up autos from the 06 models for pretty cheap but, wasn't sure what else i would need. If you can think of something or another tranny let me know. I am open to everything.

How do you plan to make an 06 auto shift without using an 06 computer and wiring harness?

You will NEVER need overdrive with a trailer. Seriously. Smartest thing I've read all night!

Even with a trailer i still drive my jeep more than most on this site. So i would like to make it a little more friendly on the road.
Is the AW4 a direct bolt in? I was asking for opinions i know nothing about automatics.

Don't know much about the AW4 either Tony or what it would take to work. I know a lot of people have swapped in a 700R4 from a Chevy. They have a 231 t-case and the overall length and yokes is the same so you can use the same driveshafts. Find one with the 231 case already on it since the Chebby 231 is drilled for that trans.

He'll need an adapter to mate the 700R4 to the 4.0 The AW4 isn't a "direct bolt in" but will all bolt together on the floor. Does that make sense? You will need new a new cross member, driveshaft work, etc. Do some searchin man! You can even make the AW4 a manual shifting, automatic.. And just think, how many automatic XJ's there are out there! Spare transmissions galore!

Thanks.
Again i drive it as a DD and really like the no shifting option. Heck when i drove the other one a couple weekends ago i forgot to push in the clutch a couple times.
