Many of you have heard the canaries that chirp whenever I turn the Heep's steering (you can hear it in this clip: ). There is a resistance to turning that accompanies the sound. It is worse going left than right, and is getting worse all the time. It does not appear to be the belt.
What is wrong? How do I trouble shoot? How do I fix it? Is it the pump or box? I've got an extra pump, does anyone have an extra box?

I would lean toward the pump, but for starters put the heep up on jack stands and cycle the steering to check for any mechanical binding. Including driveaxle u joints. After verifying that there isn't any binding look at the steering gearbox to make sure the output shaft isn't bent. Also check that the gear box is set in the middle of it's travel for equal travel left and right as well.
But the chirping would think to be the pump. Flush the system before you change your pump to make sure there isn't any debris to prevent blockage.
What style lines do you have o ring or compression fit. I have a o ring style steering gear box from a Cherokee but the lower bell is the same size as a non power steering shaft for a CJ, I might have an extra bell as well. Also Check with Kenny S. over here in Newport News for parts as well....

I've got a spare pump that I could swap, but I don't have a pulley puller. Anyone out there have one I could borrow?

Try Advance, they usually rent stuff like that, pay for it on a credit card and get your money back when you return it.
