We don't seem to use the member's only section anymore, so I was wondering since we only have about 45 members or so with about half attending monthly meetings....what do you think about having a meeting every other month? It may be on a downer note to suggest this, but I was just thinking that this might create more attendance at meetings and also combine business that requires voting to make it more worthwhile. Just a thought to see if the idea is worth looking in to. To put it in perspective MPJAI has more attendance every Saturday morning on an informal coffee run than we can muster once a month at a meeting.

I think that if you spread things out more, we would end up with less people. I have enough trouble sometimes remembering what I'm doing next week, let alone 2 months from now...

I see your point in that it would require people to come out to meetings less often. But the whole point of being in a club is to socialize with like minded people. MPJ's Saturday gathering is popular because it's not a formal setting in my opinion. Maybe the answer is to make the meeting a formal event every other month. Then on the off months make it more of a social event with only a minimum amount of business.

I wonder if we would have a decent turn out if we started a once or twice a month meetup on a Saturday or Sunday. Somewhere with an interesting environment whether it be a coffee shop, scenery, etc. The problem with socializing at the meeting means that no one pays attention to business and we can't hear what's going on when there's talking. And then at dinner, well frankly when you sit 50 people at a bunch of tables put together you can talk to about 5 of the nearest people and that's about it. We've been over the part where you should expect slow and crappy service when you sit at a large group like that.
So there you have it, I've brought up the elephant in the room.
I don't really have the answer, I am trying to stir the pot to get some activity within the club as there hasn't been much socializing or wrenching parties IMO, and to get ideas. Maybe a weekly meetup would work?

You just want us to meet at a donut shop. And we have an elephant! Cool.
We need more social events but everytime we set one up that doesn't have wheeling we have little to no participation. We even try wheeling events and only have one to two people interested in that. I don't know what the answer would be but it should be brought up at the meeting tonight.

I do appreciate the input. In fact I encourage it! And I am all for having get togethers for wrenching or even just shooting the breeze. As far as the going out after the meetings, it is tough to seat everyone in one place. As I see it, that's why you sit next to someone different each month. We have several perspective members that have been coming to the meetings and going out with us after. Great folks that really want to be a part of the group and go wheeling. The irony is they are often in the majority when it comes to attending events. We as a Board want to plan things that will generate interest in the club. We are always open to suggestions!

I think it would be easier for us if we had more places to wheel. I mean, I like hanging out with you guys and all, but I like it better when it is in between climbing rocks and going through mud :-)
It might not hurt to have something informal meetup every other week or so. Even if it's just meeting at Dairy Queen for ice cream (everyone likes ice cream). Or if we think we want to have a big dinner/get together and we get enough people agreeing that they will come, we call ahead to a restaurant and try to find one with a back room we can reserve. Most of them will be willing to work with a large group with enough notice.
But I think more wheeling events would work if we had some closer places to go. I love going but I'm not a fan of having to drive 4 hours to go.

I'm new here, and I haven't been to any meetings. I can't do any meetings during the week days in the evening because I get up at 330 am for work every day. Saturday mornings I attend KMA's meet and greets, but I'm free Saturday afternoon and sunday Mornings.
Also I have a friend that owns private property in Pungo that we can wheel on for free. I posted an invite for last weekend, but no one from Tidewater Fourwheelers showed up.

Sorry none of the Tidewater folks made it out to Pungo this time, hope you will invite us again soon. We do have a few events scheduled, June 23-meetup & trash pickup at Mt. Trashmore beginning at 6pm, probably dinner or drinks after and a club picnic and wheeling day at Starr Motors on June 30 beginning at 9am

For clarity's sake - the Mt Trashmore clean up is FRIDAY June 22nd at 6:00 pm. Afterward we'll grab a beer somewhere close by.
