Hello,
I am a frequent reader, very infrequent poster. Here goes:
I will taking a few weeks off in May to head out to Utah for some backcountry trail riding (White Rim Road, Glen Canyon, Moab, etc.). The plan is to flat tow my 1997 TJ behind a 2004 F250 V10 gas 2wd auto. With the gearing I have, the tow capacity is >12K, so I am not worried about pulling capacity. The TJ is mildly lifted and has new 32x11.50 BFG ATs. The questions I have focus around:
- Do I need any auxiliary braking, or will the brakes on the 250 suffice?
- Is it worth it to go out and buy an open air car hauler? Is flat towing advised?
Any advice? Some guys I know that dinghy tow their rigs to NC and TN use a similar setup (with a smaller tow vehicle) and say it works fine.
I appreciate any input and advice.
Dave.

Flat towing isn't really a problem with what your going to be pulling with. As for extra braking you should be fine in that area, but if you could a trailer would be the best all around for such a long haul. Especially if something breaks on the jeep...

Tim,
Thanks for the feedback. I am aware that I have to be somewhat careful in the event that I destroy an axle or something else that will not let me flat tow. I have been thinking about picking up a trailer. Does anyone have any advice for an open air hauler? From a previous post, I see that Gage may be a good bet. Any other places where I can pick up a trailer spec'ed to haul a TJ? Any info on what price I should expect? Much Thanks!
Dave.

www.kaufmantrailersinc.com/catalog.php?Type=1Here is a web site to look at to get some ideas. Plus look at the trading post available at local store news stands. Always some trailers available. I own a Kaufman trailer which am very happy with. There are a lot of trailer dealers available in this area as well. tim
