Hello from a wannabe Jeep owner. I am really becoming serious about buying an older jeep and getting involved in 4 wheeling. I currently enjoy dual sport motorcycle riding but am starting to feel my age a bit and am thinking a jeep better suit me. I also have a 9 year old son who loves the outdoors and he can't come with me on the bike but a jeep would be more of family thing. I have a place in Sugar Grove, WV which right at Reddish Knob, Flag Pole Rd, Dunkle Hollow. etc... I know I see a lot of Jeeps up there having a good time. I would likely keep the Jeep there 9 months out of the year because I am thinking an older jeep with bigger than stock tires would not be the best vehicle for the 500 mile round trip as far as comfort and mpg. The boy and I could ride my street bike up then choose between twisty pavement on the bike or woods in the Jeep. Anyway, just wanted to say hi, and see if anyone had any suggestions. Other than older used and having the 4.0 liter straight six I do not know what to look for. Brian

Welcome! I assume you live somewhere here in Tidewater? Sugar Grove is a nice area, I've always wanted to rent one of the cabins there on the Navy Base.
If you are here in the area, come by one of the meetings or get togethers to have a look at various vehicles. A 4.0 will put you in the search for a YJ or a TJ. Are you a manual or automatic transmission type of person?

Thanks,
I am definitely planning on stopping by for one of the meetings!
I live in Windsor Woods, near Mt. Trashmore, but I am so much happier when I am at my place in Sugar Grove. It is just a Fema Trailer for a cabin and a storage container for a garage but I have 10 acres of peace and quiet and it is right in the middle of all that National forest.
I could go either way on the transmission. I can drive a manual and would probably have fun with that, but I am having some problems with my right hand, arthiriis or carpal tunnel which has me thinking an auto might be the better thing to do.
