Looking for a "budget" freindly Dana 60 rear axle assembly. I will be upgrading my fathers F-150 from an 8.8 to the D-60 due to he wants to install a camper in the rear and head out west. Looking for full floater, ratio not critical, will probably get it rebuilt and locked be fore installed into his 92 F-150 4x4. Thanks Also looking for a running/ rebuildable 5.8ltr to swap out the 5.0 in his truck also.

Thanks guys, but the plan has changed, dad didn't want to mess with 2 differant spares, so I am looking for an alternative that will keep his same bolt pattern. I am thinking that a 9" is probably the only way to go. Still want to do the engine upgrade though..

You could get one of those C'clip Ford van Dana 60s out of a junk yard. Then get the shafts redrilled for 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern. They have 35 spline axle shafts.

Or just sell the 1/2 ton and get a 3/4 or 1-ton truck. There are limits to the frame as well as the rear axle.

That was an idea, but dad likes his truck. So we will "build" it keeping in mind the limitations. Unless we can find a 3/4 ton for a good price.. For now he is going with a tent unit that attaches to the rear of the truck (brother had one on his Xterra) with a high-rise shell. I will look for the Sterling 9.75. Thanks guys. Any luck on a good rebuildable 5.8ltr?

Hmm! That would ne just the ticket, a complete rig. Doesn't the lightning have the S/C 5.4, or was it also the 5.8 depending on model year?

First generation Lightning were naturally aspirated 5.8 with GT40 heads, intake, throttle body, headers and a 4.10 gear. Those were made from 1993-1995. I am selling mine. I have it listed at a very high price to see what would happen, but if you are interested I am a very motivated seller right now and just want to break even on it. norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/3459528996.html

Thanks Keith, the truck looks great, but for what we are going to be doing, i can't see chopping up a perfectly good truck to fasilitate our upgrades. I think the actual end result will be just sticking with the 5.0 and setting a set pf GT-40 heads on it and opening the ports up a bit on the intake and a set of shorty headers. Maybe switching over to MAF system also. If I am correct the MAP system is abit restrictive when it comes to engine performance upgrades. Time will tell.

Dont underestimate the speed density mapping. I would not convert to mass air, it can be even more finnicky. Unless you are going to throw a big cam in there with a wide overlap and high duration then leave it be. GT40 heads are ok but if buying new some aluminum AFR heads are the best value.

Thanks for the input Kieth. I have been searching the web, reading about the gt40 head upgrade. I am considering it for my Bronco as well(5.0) Seems fairly straight forward and if I can find a "cheap" lightning intake then even better. Always thinking of ways to upgrade, and do it an a budjet.. thats tricky. I think that I will leave the MAP system in place. Too much messing around with computer, being that I and my dad's truckl are running the E4OD.
