VA State inspection with a headlight adjustment. It makes an inspection almost fifty bucks. Got hit two years in a row. Not calling out any one company, but three letters that begin the alphabet.....

Ouch! Is that with your 10% discount for being a member? For which vehicle? The Ford?

I still don't know which place you are talking about. I can't think of a shop with the letters ABC in the name. But to answer your question, no I have never had anyone check headlight alignment. However it is an item that is supposed to be inspected. So the inspector was doing what he is required to do by the book. Having said that, if I were to ever come across an inspector that was that strict, I would never go back for a 2nd helping. What the heck is the matter with you? Just take it somewhere else that doesn't check, or go aim them yourself on the garage door and take it back somewhere else and pay the $2 reinspection. You don't have to go back to the same place anymore to have whatever failed rechecked.

AAA in Suffolk has disappointed me several times since they opened. And their service managers are class A jerks. I'll take my business anywhere but there, from now on. Which is an absolute shame, because they're only 2 minutes from my house!

AAA in GB. They've always been good to me, except that one time.
They tried to fail the 1992 MJ because you didn't have to have the clutch pushed in to start it. It's old school. I spoke with the manager and got it straightened out and inspected.

If you ever find an inspector being out of line then you can request the local VSP Trooper meet with you and the inspector. Right now there's a few Troopers being jerks about the CHMBL on Jeeps being moved when you guys put a bigger spare on there. They don't like the little round lights that we mount in the center bore of the spare wheel even though they are DOT/SAE. So far to my knowledge none of them have an alternative though. Go figure.

The thing is they got ya. They know you will just pay and not want to be bothered by it not passing inspection. They throw the line that they could be shut down if they don't go by the letter of the law. The kid that inspected it could not explain the procedure for checking and did his best to sell the idea that it wasn't BS. They did get me twice. I could not imagine anything could be wrong with this vehicle.

I had a shop do the same thing to me a few years ago. And to top it off, they stripped the adjuster bolts, cross threaded a lug nut during the inspection. Not a good way to generate repeat business. Competition is a good thing.
