My schedule is starting to come together for the summer and I was curious if anyone might be interested in a ATV trip to Maine. I'm looking at the second or 3rd week of August for the trip. It's tentative right now because I'm waiting on word on the family reunion and which weekend it's going to be as well as I don't have the clubs schedule of events for August yet. I know September is busy though.
So who might be able to make it? I've already got a campground (with full hook ups for the camper people) in mind and I will be doing a pre run in late May early June to checkout the trails and see what condition they are in.
It is about a 12 to 15 hour trip one way up there. So the plan would be to meet up on a Monday or Tuesday at the campground. Leave from there one of 2 different directions and get a couple days and a couple hundred miles of trails in.
And extra fuel can will be required. Gas in the Great North Maine Woods can be a ways between stations.
I will also be gathering registration information and locations in the up coming weeks. ATV's must be registered in Maine. There are multiple different passes including a 7 day pass.
Any questions?

due to my scheduled school starting mid August this trip will be either the first or second week of August. I'm thinking August 5, 6, and 7th. Thats the first Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in August. That will give everyone a couple days to make the trip up there and a couple days back without eating up all your vacation/leave time.
Any takers?

Yep. I think I'm going to be in on this one. I'll probably take a little more time getting up there and make some stops along the way.

Here's a hyperlink to some of the trails that we will have access to while in Maine at the Campground. These trails are about 45 minutes up the trail from the campground. www.mooseheadlake.org/atv.shtmlFor those that don't like to camp there is 1 option about 20 minutes (by ATV) south of the campground I have listed. This is on the southern end of the Abbot-Greenville Railroad bed trail. www.trailside-lodging.com/For non-trail access (tow your ATV to the trail head VS. Jump on it and go) A 15 minute drive from the trail head/Misty Mountain campground www.trebormansioninn.com/Another one... approximately 15 minutes www.bennetthilllodge.com/A bed and breakfast... www.guilfordbandb.com/Paul G.

For you folks that like bar-b-q there's a really good place just a few minutes up the road in Monson Maine. Anthony Bordain ate there when he visited central Maine a couple years ago and he was impressed. I've never had anything to complain about either and it's one of my father's favorite places. www.springcreekbar-b-qmaine.com/Paul G.

So you can access the trails from the campground correct? I don't want to have to load and unload everyday.

From the Balsam woods campground and trailside lodging there is direct access to the trails. Roll out of your tent/camper jump on your ATV and go.
