Oak Ridge Work Weekend
Hi Everyone,
We will be having a work weekend at Oak Ridge August 9-10, 2014, in preparation for the Annual Trail Ride in September
We have work to do on many trails to prepare for the event. If you want to help out, we would love to have you. You can camp on site at the VA4WDA Trail Ride site = primitive camping. We have to provide porta potty, plus there is a fee for camping. The camping charge is $10 per tent or camper or vehicle if you sleep in it. If you are camping, you may camp Friday night, but please do not arrive before 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. Please do not go out on the property or trails other than at the camping area.
There will not be any open trail riding.
Please do not show up "unannounced", let us know you are coming. If you want to attend this weekend, just fill out the information requested here in this online form!
Please register by 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014 if you plan to attend, so I can compile the list and have it ready for the weekend.
Please bring your gloves, lopping shears, shovels, chainsaw, and eye and ear protection.
We will meet at the camping area at 9 a.m., Saturday morning August 9. We will have more details there of the day's events. We will be done Saturday at 4 p.m. Sunday we will start again at 9 a.m., and be done around 4 p.m. You may arrive Friday after 2:00 p.m. Of course you can leave (almost) anytime you want. You will need to let your group leader know you are done for the weekend. Bring lunch, and be gassed up and aired down so we can get started quickly. Please bring your safety gear for your equipment, too. PLEASE BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS, AND WHO IS AROUND YOUR WORK AREA WHILE USING A CHAINSAW.
Camping rules:
As always, please travel around the perimeter of the camping field, and camp in the center. Leave enough room for vehicles to pass between your camp and the outside edge of the field. If the ground is the least bit wet, please use 4WD to go easy on the terrain.
Legal stuff:
There will be waivers to sign, please ensure all riders over 18 sign all waivers. Minors under18 are required to have their parents/guardian sign for them. As with all activities at Oak Ridge, there will be absolutely ZERO TOLERANCE for alcohol in your vehicle on the trails, or any illegal substance at any place on the property. Violators will be removed from the trails and escorted from the property. NO exceptions. We are only allowed one camp fire in the camping area - PLEASE COMPLY! It is primitive camping - no facilities, no water, pack it in/pack it out. Please make sure your camp is clean before you depart.
Again, let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Chris Boucher, 757-816-6200
