Anybody drive over their fenders on their trailers? What did you do to beef them up? My trailer width is 77". My jeep width is around 80". How I see it, I have 3 options. 1) Get some steel and beef up the fenders. 2) Make wood ramps to clear over the fenders. 3) get smaller tire and wheels and switch out at the trail head.
I would really like to avoid option 3. Option 2 is what I'm looking at. It's simple and easy...no welding skills needed. And I won't be driving up the fenders with the outer 1.5" of tires.

option two sounds really cool. I'd only be worried about if your frame or body would clear it once the tires are up and over...
and honestly, Id try and weld the ramps into it somehow. maybe even make them detachable. metal will outlast the wood.... imho.

I have seen guys just take some 2x4's and build up a place to drive on instead of the fenders. Cheap and easy.

Frame and body clearance is not an issue. The fenders are only 8.5" tall. I think the jeep has got that covered.
If I go the wood ramp way, I was going to use 2x6 or maybe 2x8s. If my math is correct, 5 of them will come to 8.75" tall. Just enough.

What is the advantage of going the whole length of the trailer with the two planks? I have a dove tail. Don't know if that will make a difference.

I am guessing here, that your wheel backspacing, axle width and tire width is coming into play, Ken... and I am guessing you're running 14.50s as far as width on tires? I haven't seen other people having issues with their trailers, however, this could be because their trailers are wider... I don't know. I like the idea in the picture that Craig posted, though... and I guess wood will work and be cheaper -- especially if you make it "removable" so you can haul other stuff on your trailer. You could also shop for a wider trailer and find someone to buy the one you have now, too... whatever works!
EDIT: Didn't see your post between Craig's and mine, Ken. The only advantage of that is so you have an even surface the entire length of the trailer for the tires to roll on, I guess...

i have seen people just use 2x2 angle on the inside edge of the fenders. it works out to be strong enough with the metal of the fenders. of course the way you are talking with making a stack of wood would lessen the chance of dropping one wheel off the fender.

I've seen everything from poop pipe bent to conform to fender, then I've seen 1/4 inch thick angle 3" wide which worked really well...
