Well I'm getting rid of the D-max and I'm gonna purchase another truck. I'm looking for input. Unless I get a killer deal like I did on the last truck (the fuel/overheating hogg) there is no way for another new one. looking at 01s to 06s. Please give me your inputs Scott

Dodge all the way!.. Get a new HD chassis w/ the 6.7 Cummins and the 6 speed auto.
I wonder if there are any new '06 still on the lot?

Maybe a choice few, probably clearance priced, Chris. I agree, even with the bad rap on the automatics, I'd still buy a Cummins-powered Dodge before I'd get a Ford. I'd probably opt for the 6-speed manual over the auto, though.

I'd buy another Ford SD with the 7.3. It is enough power and you can find one with low miles and not beaten. The 6 liter is strong and full of problems. The Ford has a better fit and finish than any year Dodge. Don't let Boucher sway you to the dark side. He gets a kick-back from DC......

I wish I got a kickback! I don't understand that whole Dodge tranny bashing stuff. I have 18K on mine with no issues. HA HA HA ;D

I brought home a 2003 dually with the six speed manual and it was a bear to drive. I didn't like in-town traffic and always changing gears. It went back and I found an auto with a cooler color. It is an older tranny with the OD off and not the tow/haul mode, but it seems to know how to pull a load without a fancy button. Hey Chris, what is the kickback on a CLK 55 AMG? I'm debating between that and a XC70.

The autos are finally getting better on the dodges, don't get an '06 with the 6 speed if you want the fuel economy. 6th is only a .63 or something like that, where the '05 and '07 got the .74 overdrive. Hey Norm, a 6 speed in the city you only need 2 gears on mine, 3rd and 5th ;D. Reliability on the cummins is not an issue and you can take it to any cummins tech not just the stealership.

...Hey Chris, what is the kickback on a CLK 55 AMG? I'm debating between that and a XC70. I can get you $20K off MSRP, but it is difficult to get car seats in the back of the CLK. I'd spring for the XC70.

Went looking at trucks today found a 06 Ford crew cab w/20k and a gently used 06 Dodge Mega cab w/10k both for 399999. both autos, neither were great colors. Also found a used new 07 for 43k that to wasn't my favorite color. I was hoping they'd be a little cheaper , BTW a new Ford 51K. I'd like to find something with around 50 miles. So I don't break the bank.

I can see pretty good over the hood. When we test drove all of the big three, I thought the Ford was the noisiest. You can beat the space in the back of the Megacab though. Besides, Christopher said he wants a reclining seat.

Boucher's secret for seeing over the dashboard is a 1982 Fort Smith, AR Yellow Pages. I think the reason for the higher prices on the used side is demand. I looked at a Jeep at a carmax and they wanted to buy my truck on the spot. The dude said they could sell it the same day and make several grand. Keep looking and be patient, I passed up an '02 drw crew 350 with 35k for under 30K, they are out there.

yeah I know, they're out there, but thats the problem with dealers they know they'll sell my truck again for the same price as what I paid 4 it two tears ago. When I bought my Dmax new I got it for $3K more than a 3yr old truck with 36000 miles. Never did understand that one, with a better intrest rate too! Go figure! I'm looking at that stuff now. However, I haven't found a 05, 06,or 07 equiped closely to really see. I figure 30k for my truck trade in and a 06 mega cab 35 or 36 max, I'd probably drop pull out the check book...Ouch! It hurts to think 36k for a truck is a good deal. I remember drooling over a fully loaded 97 F250 when they were new and complaining about the 22k for it then little did I know they would be worth 1/2 that price still with 200k miles and people are still buying them.

Yeah, I was amazed at what people were asking for 1st and 2nd Gen Dodges, let alone what the newer 3rd Gens are going for. It's crazy. I'd probably settle for a 2nd Gen, if I were to buy a full-size truck again... although, I wouldn't mind one of the newer ('03-up?) 3rd Gens. If I were to buy a Ford, I guess I'm with Norm, from all the research I've done and all of the "customer reviews" I've seen, I would definitely go for one of the older ones with the 7.3 Powerstroke.
One thing I am wondering though... is it a maintenance problem that has caused the issue with your D-max, Scott? Or is it that it's just not tuned right or something? This is one of the few times I've heard anything bad about 'em and I'm just curious what might've gone askew.
