Yesterday, Glenn Miller and I did a run on "Big Levels" and I can't help but wonder why we haven't done a club run to this place? It's about 15 miles west of Crozet and we kind of rushed it in three 1/2 hours! The trail was strewn with rocks, a few boulders and some long OBX style water crossings. The Fall foilage sported multi shades of orange, fiery reds, and mottled yellows with brown, it was fabulously beautiful. There was extensive views of the Stuarts Draft valley and we cruised along side the St. Mary's Wilderness area where we picked up a couple graduate student's named Naomi & Ginny who had meandered farther than they anticipated and they appreciated the lift back up the trail. We also came across four "bear" hunters who were clearing out little spurs for their trucks with a couple of heavy duty 'bobcats'. Using Glenn's GPS, we pulled into a couple outlooks including the 'Bald Mountain Overlook"...aiyiyiyi, what a view! Glenn had the great idea to do chili in the town of Montebello but unfortunately I had to get back to the beach...maybe next time.

The girls were JMU grad students, what do you think ADAM? Not only were they hot, they'd of made mincemeat out of you. As for you Norm...when you meet Glenn you can ask him yourself. ;D

Actually, I think Chele and I would settle for our very own club members...although just to make Adam happy, we could point out the St. Mary Wilderness area so he can scan for hiking grad students while the rest of us look at normal things, like the trail in front of us.

That sounds like a lot of fun and neat scenery (the actual trail riding I mean). Next time you guys go, give me a shout! In fact, I'm tempted to go this weekend cause I'm off. Do you have any info on Big Levels as far as directions/trail maps Debbie?

Keith, This would be a great Autumn weekend to do a run up there, let me know what you think. I'm thinking a Winter/Snow run in January or February might be awesome...anyone interested?
