Can the 5 speed manual from a '97 TJ, 4 liter be bolted in a '95 YJ, 4 popper?

Norm, not to sure of the bell housing but another thing to think about and I don't know what t-case you have but the spline counts are different between the AX5 and AX15 output shaft 21 and 23 IIRC, so you might need to replace the t-case as well. But then again will the bell housing bolt to the 2.5 block? Don't know.

The 4cyl tj's use the ax-5 still...my 2000 has an ax-5 in it. After 2000 they started using the NV3550 on the 6cyl models. It's prob a ax-15 in the 97 TJ 4.0L...don't think it will bolt up and like JPNUT pointed up the output shaft splines on the trannies will be diff...

Yup my 97 has the wonderful AX15 trans. I'm actually told that it is a good transmission but mine is having issues again. Going to try some Redline and see if that helps anything or it's back to the dealership. Jonathan

I changed to Redline MT90 in my AX5 and it did seem to smooth out the shifting after a little while (2-3 weeks).

Well I have the Redline to put in it and I'm either too busy to do it or too lazy to go out in the cold and lie in the driveway. I really need to get it done though and I should do while there isn't much mud on the underside of the TJ. ;D

If the fill hole on the AX-15 is like the AX-5, it sure makes life easier. I use one that's designed for putting gear oil in marine outdrives, can get them at any marine store or at WalMart, but I'm sure they have similar pumps at the auto parts stores. That's definately 3 bucks worth spending before you crawl under the Jeep.

Well, it looks like I am going to have to crawl under the Jeep because when I pulled into work this morning I have a rattling sound from under the Jeep. Sounds like the honeycomb has broken loose in the cat. I knew I shouldn't have washed it, it's bad luck I tell ya. Jonathan

I think the emmissions system (cat) is covered for 80K. My original one died at about 30K.

I still need to find out what exactly is rattling. It doesn't seem to rattle at idle and only between 1000 and 1500 rpm. I did find that I have some leaves and dirt and small stones in the skid plate so I need to clean it out real well. I'm hoping it's just a heat shield but I really doubt it. It's a 97 and I do have an extended warranty on it but don't know whether it is covered under the warranty. Time to clean the undercarrage well. They say that cats have a 5 year life expectancy. Hey Jonathan, I found the socket at Dorseys on Wed. He had a 2 3/32nd or something like that but it worked $13:) AND the wheel bearing are done and ready for a journey. ON the fluid pump, Advnace has Two different models last time I looked like last week. I have the cheapo model and the hose keeps coming loose. I would upgrade for the premo $5 style, and you will need a jug to pour the Redline in to pump out. I found a empty windshield washer fluid bottel works pretty good. GOod luck on finding your rattle, think I fixed my hesitation but my slow firing is still occuring, and today had loose lugnut on the highway WHAT JOY must be a jeep thing.

Cool on finding the socket, just so you know about 2 months ago, one of the employees killed themselves in the building. Just some useless info. How about that oil leak you were dealing with? Did the RTV help any? I'm sure that I have some windshield washer bottles around. Diane goes through it regularly since we live on a dirt road. I don't clean my windshield as much as she does. Might be the reason I'm all over the road. I'll have to stop by Advance and get the top of the line pump. ;D Hesitation? Maybe a dirty sensor, maybe throttle position switch? Thats an interesting store besides the death. Very helpful. on the oil leak, it hasn't sprayed up like it was at your house. So a problem somewhat solved but occasionaly I do smell something burning. Waiting for the jeep to catch fire. I think I fix the stalling by pulling out the PCV while running and then plugging it back it. I read that you can also spray Gumout in the PVC to get rid of BLOW BY which I have. With the hesitation, I go to start it, cranks like 10 times, then fires fora second, crank a few more, fires then dies, then the third times a charm. Whats the cause ? It may be a sensor? any way to test? Definitly a jeep thing.

For C'ville, Dorsey's is like a candy store for tools plus you don't have to wait for it to be shipped from somewhere. BTW, I heard the story from my neighbor who works a little further up the road.
The oil will still probably leak out a little from the inside of the top of the dipstick (the bell shaped area) since it felt a little loose. How many extinguishers do you carry? A fire would be no fun.
Diane's XJ used to have the same problem with starting and I haven't driven it enough lately to know if it is still doing that. I was told that the CPS Crank Position Sensor, or the TPS Throttle Position Sensor could be the cause. I thought I heard somewhere when the CPS goes, you don't. Didn't you wonder about your fuel pump relay but it should either work or not work. Your fuel pump could be getting weak, the sock could be plugged some, and the pump may not be holding pressure in the lines when it is shut off. You might want to try to turn the key to the on position, count to 10 or 15 then turn it over, you could have drain back into the fuel tank.
