Me and Josh went and retrieved my new project yesterday, and figure the odds I got another BroncoII it is an '86 so I will not need to do a front clip swap like I did on the last two trucks but that means I will have a wiring night mare. It shouldn't be to bad I have been comparing the wiring diagrams from the 86 and the 92 that the 4.0 came out of and it seems like i have about 10 or 15 splices to make so that the new motor will work with the old harness. The PO has already pretty much gutted the truck including the top back half of the truck so it is a choptop now so cleaning up the cuts and adding a cage are at the top of my things to do list. I worked a deal with Josh today to get my 8.8" rear back in exchange for the set of wheels and tires on the truck. I need a new front axle though cause that d28 just isnt gonna cut it. Considering either a d30 from a xj and use the rusty's long arm kit or just going back with the trusty old d35 TTB (hell it never let me down) . but anyways here is the truck and things to do.






Things to do
fix stress cracks in driverside floor board
remove the bs nerf bar from the driverside
fix the rockerpanel on the passenger side
I need to weld some sort of caps where the top was removed
weld a couple of hole that the PO put in the rear quarter when he tried to put a back wall in the truck.
take the 1993 up ranger tailgate off and put a 1980 up tailgate on.
coat the floor with something thick.
firewall repair rust
remove the 3" body lift and instal the 2" bodylift maybe.
add on to the front of the frame so I can mount a bumper ( for some reason some one cut the first 5" of the frame off )
after all that is done I will worry about a lift and front axle
I still have the motor and tranny from my ranger build so they will be going in and I will need to round up another manual tcase and axle.
I will definitely post more as I get stuff done or think of other stuff that I want to do

Looks good. All you need to do is roll it off the trailer and get started...oh wait...already done that.

Wish I had my plans handy, I'd show you how I intend to finish out a chop-top complete with doors and cage ;D Believe it or not, I know of an '85 running 35s on stock 'modified' D28 / 7.5 axles up in PA. I'm probably going to go with the D35/7.5 or 8.8 combo on my '87 when I get around to doing more to it. The existing axles along with the ones out of the '84 chop-top out in NV I plan to eventually get will probably end up being spares for the '89 since at most it will get a 3-4" lift and 31s or 32s. Does this one still have the 2.9 and drivetrain parts? Might be interested in taking some pieces and parts off your hands.

yes it still has the 2.9 and fm145 w/1350 tcase as well as the 7.5 and d28 let me know what you want I have no use for that junk also have the front buckets that I think are in good shape

Yeah, Bryan, you could have bought Dave P's XJ and not had to endure all the Ford bashing from Tony What gears are in the 28 and 7.5? I might be interested in part or all of what you pull out of your '86. Not sure if the throttle body on my '89 has been 'upgraded' or not, and it'd be nice to have some extra parts if / when needed. At least I'd be able to overhaul/rebuild things at my convenience so downtime is minimized ;D ... IF I can ever get back to doing anything with mine

I was gonna go with fullwidths but decided that the bronco did just fine with the d35

I've debated on doing full-width axles on a future project purchase (the '84 in NV), but I already have a set of Early Bronco axles. I guess if I change my mind and put the ones I have in the '87..... then again, with the right lift, modifications, and wheels, I don't think I'll need to bother going full-width (yet) ;D

Bryan already has all his pieces and parts 'that work', why spend more time and $$$, right? (stirring in the opposite direction as Adam)

Probably 3.45s, which is what is in the '87 now If they were 3.73s or 4.10s, that would be better. I don't know of any other gear ratio'ed R&Ps offered for the 7.5 other than 3.08, 3.45, 3.73, 4.10, and maybe 4.56 and some lower, but I'd have to look. The first 4 ratios were factory options for Rangers & Bronco IIs. Either way, still good to have spare parts, I'll have to get with you on things.

the demo started today Tom and I got the motor/tranny/tcase pulled and we also go the front fenders pulled as well as the engine management harness. here are the pics the last one is just the parts that we pulled today covered in fire extinguisher dust we had a near miss today while we were removing the bed to my fatherinlaws f250 I started to use the oxy/acetylene torch to cut the rusted bed bolts only to find that I was out of O2 so I just set the torch down and picked up the grinder w/cutoff wheels and started cutting not realizing that I had a leak in the acetylene gauge and while I was cutting with the grinder I had ignited the leak luckily Tom spotted the small fire with potential and I ran and grabbed the extinguisher. but anyways here are the pics.

oh and dave I think you are right 3.45 on those gears just let me know what you wanna do
