So does that mean it had a blown head gasket? Yes, blown head gasket. I don't know if it's because he was stupid and didn't set the timing right and had it too far advanced. Or if he had advanced the timing that far because it was blown and had to to get it running half way decent.

I stopped by to make sure someone was there to ask if the battery had a good charge (that's all Tony managed to teach me).

All done, much better now. I think we got it sorted out. Actually Adam made it over just in time to hear me start it up and was able to point out I was leaking coolant from a heater hose. I was too lazy to replace the factory hose clamp with a new one and it leaked. He was nice enough to tighten a new clamp on for me and drink my beer and eat the cookies Cheryl made though. Thanks for the helping hand dood! ;D
Now if I can get Paul to rebuild the front axle next week I should be good for Shoe Creek.

I scored some sweet bumpers today. Too late to take pics but here's what they look like, except in black. They are Protofab pre-runners. Drove up to Lewes, DE to get them. The guy bought these and put them on for a couple months, then decided to do a frame off restoration and in the process decided he didn't like the bumpers and bought new ones. He really wanted my hard top for whatever reason so I hauled the top to him and traded. We are both extremely happy but I still can't figure out why he traded me $1200 worth of bumpers for a $500 hard top. CMSN strikes again. www.protofab4x4.com/products.php?ID=00&ID2=40www.protofab4x4.com/products.php?ID=00&ID2=54Tonight I went and looked at the front part of the frame. Someone before me decided it would be a good idea to lop off the first 2-3" of the frame to make it flush with the grill. I really do hate previous owners. Don't know what I'm going to do now, guess I'll find some help with adding some length to the frame because this bumper won't work if I don't; it's designed to mount in the factory location. Dave, you got any ideas? Have any rectangular tubing laying around? I'll add some pics later on when it's nice out.

I like those bumpers - but I also like the ones on Billy's and Dave's. I'm seriously considering getting a bender and other things so I can just fab up my own.... and maybe open up shop on the side, too. My only other option would be to buy the EB bumpers and modify them to fit the BII I'm not sure what the heck the previous owner was thinking that lopped off the front of the frame - unless they were planning on boxing it in, adding another cross-member and doing a different bumper setup or some such. While the outcome might be good for approach or departure (or so I am guessing that might have been the thought process?), there are other downsides to lopping that off that they obviously did not consider.... 2x4, 1/8" wall would be fine seeing as that's all the frame is. But I think CORE is going to relay some short pieces to me. If not, I'll come see you. Instead of taking off the grill and welding to the frame, I'm going to extend the bumper mounts and drill new holes in the frame further in. First I'm going to reinforce what's left of the frame horns in front. I've been too busy to mess with it in the last few days, I'll get some pics to make it more clear.

I've got some short bits of 2*4 tube for you (with what looks like a nice tap too).

Neat. I can use an extra set of hands for about 5 minutes tomorrow to slide a gas tank skid in place too if you are free.

He needed you today. You could have drug him out of Mike's back yard. I guess there is a nice mud pit back there now.

I ain't free, but I can be bought for the paltry sum of a single barley pop ...
Oh and getting the 'burban stuck in Mike Day's back yard was pretty embarrassing too.
