So is the red stuff on the winch cable paint or some kind of plastic coating?

Some kind of paint on the last few feet of the cable. I'm guessing some kind of warning that your'e getting to the end, but can't figure out how it's useful. Amazon had a smokin price on that winch, I just checked again and they've gone up $100. Weird.

2x4, 1/8" wall would be fine seeing as that's all the frame is. But I think CORE is going to relay some short pieces to me. If not, I'll come see you. Instead of taking off the grill and welding to the frame, I'm going to extend the bumper mounts and drill new holes in the frame further in. First I'm going to reinforce what's left of the frame horns in front. I've been too busy to mess with it in the last few days, I'll get some pics to make it more clear. So I take it those pieces of tube worked for you? ;D Looks good Keith, I'd probably put on a hawse fairlead to re-gain a little approach. I might have a spare you can have if you're interested...

Yep, thanks for the tube. I can probably use two more pieces just like it for the back. I'll give a hawse a try, I was thinking the same thing but since that fairlead mount is angle down I thought I might need that top roller. Can try it out and see. The approach angle front and rear sucks on these things compared to a Jeep. I think I'm going to have to bob the rear quarters.

I'll cut some more tube tomorrow. When do you want to get it? [o======o]

I'm in no rush. You going to Starr this Saturday? I can get them there. I'll bring a sharpie and you can show me where to cut. ;D Craig, I haven't even driven it much. Still tieing up a lot of loose ends on this thing so I can do something with it soon. I know it is going on 39 years old, but it's more of a pile than I originally thought. Oh well. Taking it to Eddie on the 19th so he can work some roll cage magic on it.

You know the best thing about driving an EB and being in a Ford again is? I don't have to wave at all you Jeepers anymore. That wave gets old. ;D I finally made some progress. New wiring harness and fixing lots of other wiring issues fixed me all up. Been driving it around and it runs great now, like it should. Still haven't got the roll cage, but will in due time. So while I had the upper intake off I went ahead and threw on a GT-40 style intake and bigger throttle from a 5.0 Explorer. It matches the GT-40 that are on it better. Twin sticked the D20 too. Here's some more bad, dark pics. I rewarded myself for all the hard work with some bling, got a new steering wheel. I really liked the original, but my fat butt had a hard time climbing in and out with that gargantuan factory wheel. Much easier now, but I miss the old original look.

The PO had some cheap head unit in the dash when I bought it and like everything else wasn't wired properly and wouldn't turn off and would drain the battery. So after I removed it and added ducting for the Mojave heater there really wasn't room for a full stereo. I was just going to do without, but after that first trail ride I realized I needed the tunes. I copied Dave a little bit and added a cheapo 2 channel amp and mounted it on the bottom of the passenger seat and wired my iPod right to it with the RCA inputs. It works great. Anyway the point is I found this DIN insert that Tuffy makes. Covered the stereo opening great and I have a little cubby there now. Never knew anything like this existed.

That amp is a great idea. I will have to borrow it for the yota. It was kind of a bummer on the trail ride without any tunes.

Coming along great Keith! Hey my amp is completely enclosed in the center console! You know, for those times when you have to take a garden hose to the interior or have water coming in! Was that 3" 2x4? I've got a couple pieces to choose from...

Russ, those new ipod nanos have an FM tuner too, sweet. No need for a head unit anymore.
Dave, if you got two 3" pieces of 2x4 that would be awesome. Give or take.
