Alright, just got my truck back from the dealer one more time. So far they say there isn't a fix for my problem yet. I'm calling GM customer service to log a formal complaint. They're saying my truck problem falls under bulletin #PIP3328A Which Gm has known about since I've bought my truck(Mar 14 2005) This is ticking me off!

Sounds like your dealing with Hutchens. Finally got our truck repaired in Amherst at the annual 2003 when the tcase controls messed up. Come to find out it was only a computer program update to fix the problem... a problem Hutchens couldn't fix
As for MPG, the 2000 chevy we had didn't get as good of mileage as the 2003 chevy silverado does. It is right good around town at 18 and highway not loaded 24. I was rather amazed about the 24 myself. As for the trailer attached, best was 13.9 but when pulling 10k I really don't worry about fuel mileage.

Just got off the phone with GM customer assistance. They'll be dealing with my surging issue and crappy fuel milage deal! I might have to go to another dealer. Will see. I wish I got your around town milage on the highway Tim! Shoot you get better fuel milage pulling 10k than I get running empty around town or on the highway! If I got that milage I'd be happy as a pig in poop! Scott

Scott - for what it's worth, I've had good experience so far with Casey's service department.
Tim - Out of curiousity, has your mileage been the same since day one, or did it improve after "break in"?
As an aside, I changed the fluid in the rear diff yesterday. Now I understand why they call the factory fill "grape juice". Had to wash my hands a LOT to get that smell off! Like others have reported, the factory fill was a bit shy of the recommended level. I drained just slightly over 2 quarts. Refilled almost 4 quarts. Scott, I don't know how many miles you have on yours, but if you have the Eaton G80 unit in the rear, they recommend changing out the factory fill at 5k (or 500 towing).

Alright here's the latest, I'm talking with GM customer assistance. Customer assistance just got done talking with the dealer and now the dealer wants me to bring my truck back in again to take another look at it. It goes in for the third time this coming Monday. Maybe the dealer became a little smarter since last time or they were told they better find a fix. Who knows? The one thing that’s kind of interesting was the GM rep stated to me that “I shouldn’t have to live with a surging truck and we’ll fix it or make it right”. So this should be interesting on how many times it’s got to go in to get it right!. I’ll keep you all posted! Scott

Just got the truck back from the dealer again today. What a flipp'n gaggle!!!! After working with the mechanic for about 2 hrs we (he and I) learned a few things about service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?Shtml File=1625742&psdid=0 Document ID 1625742 “2004-2005 6.6 LLY Diesel Engine Surge at Idle or 1100 to 1400 rpm key word: balance brake calibration ECM engine fuel injector regulator #PIP 3328A- Mar 14, 2005 2004-2005 6.6 LLY Diesel Engine at idle or 1100-1400 RPM The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI. Condition/Concern: The customer concern may be an engine RPM surge felt at idle or at 1100 or 1400RPM. This condition may be more noticeable when towing. Recommendation/Instructions: 1. Complete the current SI diagnostics for any DTCs set. 2. Verify the vehicle has the newest ECM calibration. There is calibration available for an off-idle 800 RPM surge. 3. There are two distinct engine RPM surges this pi will address. A. The first surge is an idle surge that is felt when the driver’s foot is on the brake, there is a very low of 0% APP angle, and the vehicle is stopped. This idle surge can be duplicated by coming to a stop, then slightly releasing the brake to let the vehicle roll forward. B. The second surge is felt in the 1100 to 1400 RPM range. This surge is felt more when cruising at a steady speed in the 1100 to 1400 RPM range. 4. Monitor the injector balance rates at idle. Injector balance rates should be between –4.0 to +4.0 in park/neutral and –6.0 to +6.0 in drive. If balance rates are not within these specifications continue injector diagnostics following SI procedures for Fuel Injector Balance Test with a Tech 2. 5. If the condition of an engine RPM surge can be duplicated and all balance rates are within specifications do not attempt repairs. Engineering is investigating the 6.6 LLY diesel engine surge at idle and at 1100-1400 RPM. This PI will be updated as soon as new information becomes available. Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. Models: (2004-2005 Chevrolet Silverado) and (2004-2005 GMC Sierra) We checked the following 1. We made sure my truck had the newest ECM calibration. Which came out August 05 There is calibration available for an off-idle 800 RPM surge. Which the tech department stated that all trucks are not cured by this software upgrade. 2. We determined my truck has BOTH two distinct engine RPM surges this pi address 3. We monitor the injector balance rates at idle, mine were way within specifications 4. Then we came to this conclusion. Don’t touch the truck because GM says don’t try and fix it! I asked the dealer about swapping computers, checking fuel line pressures and they stated they can’t just swap parts until GM gives them the OK So My trucks condition is…If the condition of an engine RPM surge can be duplicated and all balance rates are within specifications do not attempt repairs. Engineering is investigating the 6.6 LLY diesel engine surge at idle and at 1100-1400 RPM. This PI will be updated as soon as new information becomes available. SO I’LL ASK GM THIS WHEN CAN I EXPECT MY TRUCK TO BE FIXED!

Just refilled for the first time since getting my Duramax (04 Ext Cab S/B). 17.1 MPG around town with a heavy foot. It's hard for me not to rip around town in my new Hot Rod Truck. Next weekend I guess I'll see what it gets towing a 7000lb trailer.
