No problemo. Are you using a wheels-down dolly? If so, we can probably check the air in the rears and pull the driveshaft before you get there. No point cooking a perfectly good transmission. I'd get a full trailer if at all possible.

Well, we can pull the DS and jack the front end way up, let as much fluid drain out of the tailhousing as we can, so it doesn't end up all over the road ... then tie a bag over the opening to keep out road dust and debris.
What are you gonna tow with? I've pulled vehicles this heavy on a dolly with the Bronco, and it's pretty entertaining with no trailer brakes.

...the wrangler... You realize this is a fullsize car pushing around 4,000lb, right? ;D Wheelbase is your friend ... towing something this heavy with no trailer brakes behind my 105" Bronco was bad enough. The load is much better with brakes, but it will still whip something as short as the Bronco around on the road. Also, if you're planning to rent from U-Haul, they won't rent a tow dolly to you for pulling anything heavier than 60% of the weight of the tow vehicle ...

Okay, here's the deal. I have arranged for a real truck to do this job. My mom is coming down to visit for the weekend anyway, and I asked her to bring her 153" crew cab F-250HD instead of her ZX2. It'll happily pull that diplomat with your Wrangler in the bed, and barely notice. ;D I've got to steal that truck one day. LOL Catch is, I need you to find us a real trailer. Even with a real truck, I have two concerns about using a dolly -- for one, I'm not absolutely certain that the rear tires will be up to the trip, since they haven't been driven on for at least three years and have been parked. They may be starting to dry rot, I haven't looked. Second, I'm not 100% certain that it's legal to tow an unregistered vehicle with its wheels on the ground. If you want to rent a wheels-up from U-Haul, it is an acceptable tow combination as far as they're concerned, but it's $50. I think the odds are probably pretty good that someone on the board could loan you one for the day, but since I don't know many folks here, I wouldn't know who to ask. Whatever it is, let me know what it has for wiring and brakes, and I'll make sure we're set up for it. She's already set up with five pin and seven pin wiring, with a class IV or better drawbar and a gooseneck hitch in the bed. I just need to give her a brake controller for a mother's day present, since the last owner kept his. ;D In other words, if you can find us a good wheels up trailer, we're willing to take care of the rest just to get this darned thing outta my yard.

No problem, if you can't find one for this weekend, we could probably do it next Saturday. I just wanna make sure we get this s**ker over there safely and in one piece, and don't mess up a nice YJ doing it. She comes down pretty much every other weekend to help out with my ongoing (and going, and going) house renovation. However, since she'll have the truck down here this weekend anyway ...
Besides, she's only had the truck almost a year, and she hasn't gotten to tow much with it. Usually uses it for hauling in bed. Most anything we tow around here on a regular basis is small enough to pull easily behind the Bronc. ;D

Ok, had a few guys come over yesterday to help out, was hoping to get a picture of all the jeeps out front, but as it turns out all of them showed up at different times. so any wayyyyyyyyyyyyy.... Matt showed up at 10 am, after i had my coffee we went outside and tried to figure out how to jack the XJ up since the ground was still a little soft from the rain the other day, finally I just started it up and got it to the end of the "driveway" (if thats what you call the strip of dirt running along the side of my house) so we could start the lift process.... long story short... no go witht he lift, didnt have the tools needed, needed a tap an dye set for the trackbar relocator bracket and air tools would have helped with the control arms. so we took the front end apart only to put it all back together again. cory showed up around 2 and we drained the tranny and changed the filter ( and at this point Keith showed up as well) and then cory left almost as soon as he got here. Keith and i put the tranny together and i started to fill it up again, when it started leaking, BAD! the gasket had gotten pushed off and was leaking past the bolts. short story: took it off put it on, drove BACK to the store, filled up the tranny, and we drove it around the block. which leads me to this.... We have almost figured out what the deal is with the non running situation. hopefully its just a filter or fuel pump problem (got the filter allready, gotta put it in sometime this week) and the pump is only $22 so that not bad at all. when its running, its running lean, really lean which means its not getting fuel so keith looked inside the barrel with it running and noticed its not shooting near enough gas into the carb, so hopfully like i said this is the problem. but i did have it running long enough to drive it down the street to tread quarters and get air in the tires... drives nice, and the tranny shifts fine in drive, but still only works 20% of the time in reverse. so thats next in line for troubleshooting.
