Okay.. last November I decided to do a revamp of Big Lime (my 71 CJ5). I wanted to install an automatic, 4 to 1 gears, 32 spline outputs, rear 4 link, one ton axles and 42" Swampers. Soooooooo... I started parts gathering. Picked up an Army M1008 for its one ton axles (D60/GM 14 Bolt) and the stuff to do the rear suspension.. (Fox 14" Coilovers, link DOM, Johnny Joints.. etc). Ripped out my old NT Dana 44 and shoved it under my 80 CJ5 (it has 3.73s and a Detroit).. Rear Suspension.. moved rear axle back about 18 inches.. had to install fuel cell inside back of Jeep. Lower Links= 2"x3/8" DOM, Upper Links 1 3/4"x3/16" DOM.. Upper Shock Mount to rollcage tie ins..

Preliminary flex testing with my engine hoist.. I'll make a ramp to get it up higher.. I've since cut the front fenders a bit for clearance... Made new motor mounts to lower the engine about 1.5" from where it was before.. have to fight for every degree of front shaft angle.. After the new motor mounts, I yanked out my old NP435 and swapped in a new Turbo 350 and 4 to 1 Lomax kit in the D300. While I had the TC apart, I also swapped in 32 spline front and rear outputs.. and a new input shaft to mate it to the Turbo 350. Had to make a new skid to get it all in place. Here's the frame for the new crossmember.. 2"x2"x3/16" wall square tube skinned with 3/16" plate that used to be my gas tank skid... The new skid also attaches via YJ spring bushings so I can just swing it down out of the way.. from either side.. Here's the new skid in place. Used old poly body bushings for tranny bushings...

Finally got around to hacking the front fenders.. Who'd of thought a short nosed CJ5 could fit 42" TSLs? Made a bracket that ties both Flowmasters together and mounts them on the rear bumper via another poly bushing.. we'll see if it gets too hot for the bushing. Cut the body a little for the exit.. Installed dual tranny cooler plumbed in series and cooled via a 15" fan setup with a thermostat control. Originally was only going to run one cooler.. but the fan fit better with 2...

Put together the rear disk setup.. pretty easy install on the 14 Bolt axle. This will be run with a Hydrovac system that I got off the same truck as the axles.. I'll post more pics soon.. I just got all the fluids topped off in the tranny/tc and power steering system. Got the engine fired back up (first time since November) and am currently working on the brakes and steering.. stay tuned.

All I can say it WOW. Nice work, I'm just jealous at the time you've got to work on something like that.

Very sweet. Got some great looking engineering going on in that rig. Can't wait to see how it does on the trails.

Thanks and don't be too jealous about the free time.. it's not that free ;D . I'm in the Army so I go to work at 5am and get off about 4:30pm. As soon as I get home, I change into work clothes and start working.. weekends get about 20 hours between Sat and Sun. I'll be glad to get this thing done so I can move on to other projects around the house.
Yesterday I actually got the Hydravac system finished and bled the brakes. Brake pedal travels to the floor but stops the Jeep. I'm gonna swap in a larger bore MC to push more fluid, that should help pedal feel. I also got both high steer arms/spacers on. Drilled and tapped the knuckles for 5/8" studs instead of 1/2" studs. So... I was finally able to move it back and forth in front wheel drive. Still have to put the pinion back in then I should be able to drive it around the block to check things out..

Eddie,
I want to see you hop up in and out of that thing. Looks good. When are you going to do the front since you have the Johnny Joints now.

Paul, I'll probably get to the front sometime this next Fall/Winter. I plan on building another frame out of 2"x4"x3/16" wall at the same time. I just want to get to wheel it this Summer

Nah.. it's a trailer queen. I have my little street demon 80 CJ5 with the warmed over 360 to drive on the street. Isn't legal defined as: "doing something wrong and not getting caught?" ;D Seriously.. I'd like to drive it on the street as I'm sure it'd freak out some people but I need to save my money to pay for wheelin' trips instead of tickets..

Well, I did manage to drive it on the street (about 5 miles)... it was awesome watcing the faces of everybody I passed. I also got my front ARB installed, finished my rock rings, did the rear corners and a few other things..
