Okay.. I've decided to try my hand at making a buggy. Plan is to use a CJ grill, hood and.. that's about it. I'm gonna strip the drivetrain and suspension off my green CJ and use that stuff on the new buggy. I'd like to narrow and sink the grill and slope the hood down for better visibility. Here's the buggy kit I purchased.. 328ft of 1.75" DOM Made the main frame rails out of 2"x4"x3/16" rectangular stock. I figured it would make it easier to do a removeable skid plate for tranny/TC access. Kicked up the front frame rails to give the front axle a little room for uptravel. Also, set frame width at 29" on center. A little wider than my current setup but it should fit the clocked D300 and the exhaust system a little better.. I attached some casters so now it's a rolling chassis right? I also bent up the main rocker frame. Overall width at widest point will be about 52". This is my high tech shop where the buggy will be meticulously built. I couldn't wait to attack the cherry grill I got for free.. No turning back now.. Mmmm.. nothing like welding in Tshirt and shorts to get a tan.. My new CJ "lite" grill...

I have almost been thinking of posting a help wanted in the nature of does anyone have a welder and a tubing bender that can handle up to 2 1/2" ... i.e. exhaust piping. I seem to be getting nowhere in the quest for the exhaust I want to put on my junk with the "hardware" I want to put on. I don't feel up to driving all over Hampton Roads to find a shop that has the parts I want or calling all over the place, either for a price quote. Anyhow, looks like it's going to be an interesting project. Looking forward to seeing what Lime II looks like ;D

87B2XLT,
I buy the bend and straight pieces from summit and make my own exhuast. Cheaper and it is the way that you want it done. If you need more info let me know.
Eddie,
Dang it. You beat me to it. I'm trying to round up parts so I can get started. Let me know if you need a hand.

My bender is only capable of 2" and I've only got 1.75" dies anyhow.. Thanks for the cudos and offers of help. I'm picking up a mockup engine Saturday so I'll be able to get the motor mounts tacked in. That will allow me to set my seat height, grill drop and ultimately start the A and B pillars. Should be way down the road this weekend if the weather cooperates.
As for the remnants of Big Lime, someone already claimed the carcass. I'm gonna make one or two more runs then strip the Jeep.
I'm just shooting from the hip on all the measurements. I use Big Lime as sort of a reference and just go from there.. we'll see how that system works in the end..

If we need a hand it will be the week before the annual run so he can make it...I've stolen the 33"s off his CJ5 and put some 26 inchers on for his motivation.

It is fun. I find myself really looking forward to working on this thing. Plus, I converted my manual bender to air over hydraulic for about $150. Makes bending alot quicker and a whole lot easier..

Okay.. got a late start today but still managed to get the mockup engine in place with the motor mounts. I decided to solid mount the engine and tranny. Here's the aluminum bushings and motor mounts.. yep, solid mount engine and tranny. Close up of the mount.. Tacked into the frame... it'll get more bracing later on.. Braced up the rear of the rocker frame.. it'll get alot more bracing and skid plating later... Engine and tranny are mocked up in place.. should allow me to set my grill and hood height next...
