Possibly a little late I know, but this is the bracket he'll need: It'll work on either a 351W or 302. That's on my 302, notice how there's an extra hole down and to the left of the bottom left stud? On a 351W, that one stud through the bracket would go through that extra hole instead of the one it's in. Here's another important question I forgot to ask earlier. Keith, are you using Mustang brackets, or truck brackets? Most everything else is compatible, but the Mustang style brackets locate the accessories waayyyyy forward of where everything else does, and this bracket won't do you any good if you want to use a Mustang passenger side bracket. (Personally I'd just grab the truck passenger side if that's the case and use all truck stuff.)

Well it appears that I will be Va Beach on Thursday, so hopefully that van with the pump will still be there if you guys aren't able to get to it first. Chuck, I am using all the moostang brackets and pullies. What I have read is that the guys are either sliding the pulley forward on the shaft a bit, or just simply shimming the mounting bracket out a bit, or spending $30 on a pulley from an 80's Slowmaro. You're only looking at 3/4" difference there, if that.

Keith, I can't remember exactly off the top of my head what the color of the van was, but there are 4 or 6 Fords within almost spittin' distance of each other. Two are 6-bangers, Two are V-belts, and there is only 1 serpentine, besides the burn victim all the way in the far back corner (it's a short-bus van type thing, and you wouldn't even want to pull the hood). The only other Ford I remember seeing was I think off-white and light metallic blue(?), but you couldn't get the hood up without a prybar. I believe the van you'll be looking for is a two-tone blue. Rich might remember better than I.

Wow, six vans and one serpentine is probably the *least* I've ever seen there. You might have a few new ones in by Thursday ...
Is it only 3/4" inch or so? Cool, I've never measured. I'll have to take a glance tonight while I'm under the hood ... learn something new every day.

Chuck, well looking at that picture of the water pump and pulley...that pump looks like the same long snout pump, the pulley groove only looks set back a little bit compared to what I have..plus what I've read over on Pirate. Cory, you are more than welcome...Thursday morning I'm going to Core4wd garage-mahal and we'll be rebuilding the NP-435, then later it's off to PNP (or maybe the other way around, not sure). So I have no idea when I'll be there, but if you want to ride with me that's fine, but I'll be out that way the majority of the day. And keeping with tradition, we'll fire the welder up and set your pants on fire...

I ran into P-n-P today for about 5 minutes to check on some stuff.. Ilooked at What I think is a Ford NP435.. Sitting in the bed of a Ford Truck.. I glanced over real quick... the top was off so the gears are exposed.. Looks to be in decent shape.

I saw at least two NP 435's under some trucks there. With Cory and another friend help me, we snatched that power steering pump and bracket pretty easily. That was the only van with the set up I needed. It fits perfectly, I won't have to shim or change pulley at all. Those 435's really are easy to rebuild. But those new syncros are tight, it made me think I was doing something wrong. Once that was figured out, we worked on the shifter rails, because it kept walking out of 1st gear on me, so I grinded the detent deeper and added a stiffer spring. I didn't want to go crazy on it, but after putting it back together and shifter handle back in, I feel that I could have went even deeper with that detent. Oh well, I'll try it and see.

Okay, am I correct in thinking that the NP-435 is the same as the T-18 (?) granny tranny? That thing looks way too familiar a la 60s and 70s F-250. I never noticed the 1st gear issue with the granny tranny in my grandfather's '74 F-250, but then again, it probably wasn't an NP-435, but rather the T-18... assuming my thinking isn't askew. Good stuff, though. Speaking of tranny rebuilding... wondering if they have a kit for mine... I'm sure the syncro's (especially 1st to 2nd) could use some replacement.... not even wanting to see what the gears look like.... wonder if a mustang 4.0 bellhousing for a T-5 / T-56 would work with the 435 or T-18.... ;D
