... If I leave the axles alone and bolt them up my tires are going to stick out an extra 4-6" per side... (maybe a little more)... SO..., I might just do that because my center of gravity is pretty high and hopefully this will help counter that little problem... It wont pass inspection anyway!!!... Why not spend some time and make yourself some simple removable fender flares? Will get you "legal" on the fender requirement for the road, but be easy to take back off. All older 44's have the same innner "C"... Thanks for the info. I thought that was the case, but I didn't want to say that when I wasn't certain it was correct.

Awesome... I'm slowly getting there! Hey man, what would you rather use.. A ford front axle off of F-150 or a Waggy front axle? And how would i know if a rear axle is a posi... (Axle is off of vehicle laying on the ground collecting rust). What can I do to check before purchasing it? (Call me stupid but I've always wondered and I never bothered to ask to find the answer). The reason I ask is because I'm looking at a 14 Bolt rear at the moment... If i's not posi what would be a simple fix to make it posi while saving $$$? Sorry for all the questions... (I just want to do my "Project" Right!!! And don't worry about "posi", if you're going bare bones budget you'll want an open carrier to install mini-spool, lunchbox type locker or weld spider gears anyway for locker action. If you plan on installing full locker, you'll change carrier out and posi or open carrier won't matter...my $.02.

...If you plan on installing full locker, you'll change carrier out and posi or open carrier won't matter...my $.02. Not on the 14 bolt. ;D The Detroit Locker for the 14B is a lunchbox. It's a full size Detroit mechanism, it's just that the 14B diff is so dang BIG, a full size detroit fits in the carrier. So it has to be an open diff if he wants a Detroit. ;D If you can get a good deal on a D60 front, it's a good front axle if you're planning to beat on it a little and will work great with that 14B ... you're passenger side drop, right? Makes it easier to find one if I'm not mistaken, since you should be able to use a Chebby or Dodge axle ... (I don't really know, everything I mess with is driver's side drop).

Yeah, I'm already looking for a D60 Front with Passenger side drop... Found one for $800... Told the guy he was crazy... I'm gonna to be hard on it... (IT'S A JEEP, THERE NOT MADE TO BE BABIED OR LOOK PRETTY) Well, the Rubi's are pretty fricken sweet looking.... Something about them!!! I'm 100% I'll roll her at-least once... I'll have a few extra parts of everything.... (Even a chainsaw in the back...)hahaha Hey, you just never know!!! Look in Tidewater Trading Post. There's a pass. drop D60 in there with 4.56 gears and I think a locker for around the same price. I'm sure it's from one of those Gov. Vehicles.

Summit racing sells the 8 lug wheels for pretty cheap in 15 inch wheels size. Get the ones with very little backspacing so you don't have to grind to much metal off the calipers. Norm is right. $800 for a complete Dana 60 is a deal. They usually go for 900 to 1200.

Thanks... Either way I look at it,... "too me" that's expensive. I'm sure if I hold off long enough I can get an old rusted out F-250 for about that price... I'm hedding to Up-State New York at the end of the month and my friends are looking around for me.. It shouldn't be that hard to find something up there.. (as much salt that gets laid down every winter)... Things tend to rust at sickly pace!!! Plus I need to yank the interior out of my 84 CJ... and then come back finish the front axle do a little roll-cage work and have it on the road.... Legally I hope. I've seen several Ferd (sic) D60's go for around $800 on EBAY as well. You'll need to go to PNP EVERY DAY to score for less or have a hook up elsewhere (like Woodfin's). You may get lucky buying whole truck from Trading Post. Be religious with picking that copy up each week 'til you find it! Sometimes people just don't know what they have...

You'll be hard pressed to pickup a D60 front for less than $800.... Certain things are gonna cost big bucks and a front 60 is one of them. The key to a cost effective build is a solid vision of the finished product. If you know exactly what you want, then you can look for deals on the parts you need. Buy stuff only once and keep yourself from redoing things. I only say this as I near my own finished product.. my green CJ.. I started the build in '99.

Ask him if it's got an aluminum cover where the shifter comes out, check with magnet. Also, there will be a circle with "NP" in it on the side, I believe. (have to go look at mine) If it's aluminum it's the better NP435. U b stoked with that hook-up in N.Y.! ;D

It's Ford's 1 ton (although it did come in some 2nd generation Bronco's and F- seies pickups) manual tranny. 1st gear is 6.69 to 1, a little better than the T-18.

Doesn't Ford F250= D44? I thought only the F350s had 60s up front... and F250s had D50s and 44s... I'm not a big Ford fan so I don't really know..

Since it came with the snowplow (and an early Ford) it's most likely the "snowfighter" package with D60 front. Fords are driverside drop. Ford also made the HD D44 with 8 lugs, PaulC correct me if I'm wrong! I believe the snowfighter D60 will have a kingpin set up vice D44 ball joint as well...

Slow down man on getting 60's. There are a few things to check before going crazy. You need to make sure they have king pins, on the bottom of the knuckle there will be a plate with four bolts in it. Also you need to make sure the it is an open knuckles. Internationals with 60 sometimes have a closed knuckle, odd 6 lug wheels and external locking hubs. Your Ford may have a 60 but how wide are the perchs on it. If it is an '84, the one you got the perchs are 36 inches wide. Very hard to fit into alot of Jeeps unless you out board the springs or narrow it.
